Wilderness trails: The Iron Range boasts almost 200 miles of wilderness trails, including Bird Lake, Otto Harris Lake, Peloquin Wildlife Management Area, Thistledew Lake and Sturgeon River. These rugged, unpaved trails offer unparalleled wildlife-viewing opportunities and gorgeous scenery.
The Gunflint Trail: The Gunflint Trail is home to dozens of hiking trails, from easy day hikes, to challenging multi-day routes. The Gunflint Trail's mapped, well-marked unpaved trails meander through the Superior National Forest and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA).
The Superior National Forest: Popular with campers, backpackers, bikers and hikers, this beautiful old-growth boreal forest includes more than 2,000 lakes and streams. The Superior National Forest offers visitors a sense of solitude and independence, and contains the greatest number of breeding birds of any national forest. A staffed interpretive center starts visitors off on the right foot.
